We currently have a great assignment for a Project Manager with one of our top clients.  Our client is a premier full-service iron, structural steel and miscellaneous metals fabrication company.

Job Responsibilities

The Project Manager is responsible for directing, monitoring and managing all phases of awarded projects.  This will include coordinating with the Operations Manager, Field Superintendent and Fabrication Manager on assembling project teams, scheduling the contract work and preparing and monitoring project budgets.  The Project Manager will actively participate in identifying sales opportunities with existing and potential clients, and is responsible for:

  • Reading and understanding blueprints, drawings and specifications
  • Performing material take-offs
  • Performing job site visits, field measurements and calculations
  • Verifying field dimensions
  • Preparing drawings and working with the design team to create designs
  • Managing all facets of awarded projects including shop drawings, purchase orders, schedules, invoices, contracts, change orders and deadlines
  • Actively interfacing with clients, coworkers and colleagues
  • Keeping clients apprised of schedule or budget issues and identifying, submitting and processing change orders prior to budget exhaustion
  • Overseeing the preparation and submission of invoices for payment
  • Multi-tasking and performing simultaneous management and control functions for several projects and clients effectively in a highly-motivated, goal-oriented environment
  • Understanding the technical aspects of the steel fabrication and erection industry, the requirements of contractors and the necessity of negotiating with clients to maintain their satisfaction

Specific qualifications for the Project Manager role include:

  • Bachelor's degree is preferred in Construction or Engineering discipline, but not necessary
  • Successful Project Manager experience in the steel industry
  • 5 years minimum experience in the structural steel and miscellaneous metals industry
  • Experience using Microsoft Office Suite including Word, Excel and Outlook
  • Experience using AutoCAD or other engineering software
